Our collections represent a vast and valuable resource for teachers and educators in a wide variety of curriculum subjects and for a wide variety of age groups.

We have recently started a programme of liaison with teachers involving placements and the development of ideas for new resource material to ascertain how best our collections can be presented for use in Schools. Early discussions suggest our resources can provide valuable contextual or primary source evidence for many areas of the curriculum. Our resources are especially useful for topics where pupils are encouraged to interpret historical sources for themselves.

See Exploring Your Heritage for examples of what we have in our collections.

How do our resources relate to the Scottish Curriculum?

Our resources complement the cross-curricular subject 'The Culture of Scotland', but can also be used in many specific areas of the 5-14 curriculum, Standard Grade and Higher Grade teaching. Many of the suggestions below and in our teacher placement report can be adapted to suit a variety of curriculum areas and age groups.
